In contrast with all of the talk of ferguson and police brutality toward african americans,I think that its important that we remember that there are still many cops out there that do protect us, no matter what skin color.

A few weeks ago, 13-year-old Cameron Simmons called Sumter police because he was upset after fighting with his mom. The teenager told police he didn't want to live in the house with his family anymore. So out of the kindness of his heart the officer went out of his way to make sure that this 13 year old boy would be happy.Within the next few days the police officer came back with a Bed, TV, desk, chair, a Wii game system all just for the boy to live more comfortably. This just goes to show that there are plenty of police officers out there that care about the well being and protection of all people, and not all police forces should be grouped under this new stereotype started by unfortunate events.

ferguson grand jury extended

"In the aftermath of Monday's violence, Missouri governor Jay Nixon sent a large contingent of extra National Guard troops, ordering the initial force of 700 to be increased to 2,200 in hopes that their presence would help local law enforcement keep order in the St. Louis suburb."
Many of my fellow African Americans are blind to the facts of this Mike Brown case and the evidence and findings of the case. Many people have broken out in violence and looting. However this isn't what needs to be done. This is not the way to make the difference in achieving the justice that they are seeking. As a young African American male I can understand the frustration and anger that these rioters may have, however I know that its not right. This is far from what MLK's vision on the mountain top and the violence will not lead us to the promise land of equality and justice that we have been seeking hundreds of years

Ferguson Grand Jury

In Ferguson Missouri the grand jury ruled on not indicting the police offer who shot an unarmed black teenager a few months ago and it has stirred controversy in the African - American community. Although I am strongly against the violence that has followed the decision I have strong convictions about the decision.A grand jury investigation isn't supposed a trial. Regardless of whether or not you believe Wilson should be arrested, it's quite clear that this was handled improperly. All sorts of conflicting evidence has popped up over the last three months (which by the way is ridiculously long for a grand jury to convene). It's not the grand jury's place to say whether that he should be convicted beyond a reasonable doubt, just that there's "probable cause" that a crime was committed, hence a trial should be conducted. That the prosecutor couldn't get an indictment is a gross distortion of an already distorted criminal justice system.Rioters" and "protestors" are not synonyms. There were peaceful protests going on even as rioters were burning buildings and looting businesses. That's easy to overlook, since television feeds gravitated towards conflict. Because conflict = ratings. Regardless if you believe the rioters need to be condemned, conflating them with the entire population of Ferguson doesn't accomplish anything. It's quite counterproductive. Nobody conflates the city of San Francisco with the assclown smashing car windows after the Giants won the World Series. Nobody conflates all Penn State students with the people that rioted after Joe Paterno was fired. Nobody conflates all WASPY New Englanders with the people in Keene, New Hampshire. I wonder why. If you don't want to acknowledge the racism of the situation, just remember that the peaceful protestors repeatedly tried to get the violent people out of the crowd and prevent them from escalating a conflict.

Value

About a week ago an African American teen in North Carolina was pepper sprayed in his home for being mistaken as a burglar."Stacy Tyler said she had left her home unlocked because she knew her foster son, DeShawn Currie, would be arriving home from school. When neighbors spotted Currie, who is black, entering the Tyler residence, they immediately called police."When the police asked why he was in the house he told them that he lived there and when the police saw pictures of the white parents on the wall they thought that clearly Deshawn was lying. Its difficult to say on whether the police were the ones at wrong here for having the same reaction most people would have.I myself have an african american friend whose foster parents are white and often times when he tells people that his parents are white they don't believe him as well.I don't think the police not initially believing that he was not apart of the family to be wrong , however pepper spraying him without getting to the bottom of the situation is. However the neighbors who saw him walk through the front door of the house, but not break in nor get into the house in a suspicious way, wouldn't have assumed a white man walking in the front door as a burglar but instead saw a young black man and expected the worse. However this isn't a white vs black problem but how society in general views young black men as threats to society. Although I do believe that is more likely for the white family to have called the police on the black teen walking into the house I'm not confident that a black family wouldn't have assumed the same thing. The lives and attitudes toward young black men are one of the most devalued in our society today, by not only white but black people as well. Before this racial profiling and black and white controversies can ever stop we as african american have to stop profiling ourselves.

State V Mann

The anti-slavery side argued that since Mann was renting the slave that he did not have the same rights to the slave as the owner Elizabeth, therefore does not have the right to assault a slave. The anti-slavery side also brought up how it didn't only violate the slave but the rights of the slave owner nearly killing the owners property.
The pro-slavery side brought up the point that slaves are not counted as people in the south. They also brought up the point that when Elizabeth leased out Lydia to Mann he then had all the rights to the slave that she has, therefore he could do whatever he wants with the slave.
I think that the pro-slavery side made a better argument for Mann with the fact that when the slave owner leased out the slave that Mann then had the same rights as the slave owner, which means that he cannot be charged with battery.

Atlanta Hawks

Yet another NBA owner is due to sell his team due to recently discovered racist comments .Atlanta Hawks owner Bruce Levenson is selling his part in the team after emails were received of him talking about how the black people in the stadiums are scaring away all the white customers. Levenson however was the one who brought this email to the NBA unlike the situation with Donald Sterling.
However what he is saying can in fact be true. There are white people that are intimidated by large groups of black people and there are black people intimidated by large groups of white people. In my opinion this does not make him a racist,it just makes someone in a high position that explained his feelings in an ignorant manor. Levenson says My theory is that the black crowd scared away the whites and there are simply not enough affluent black fans to build a signficant season ticket base. Please dont get me wrong. There was nothing threatening going on in the area back then. i never felt uncomfortable, but i think southern whites simply were not comfortable being in an arena or at a bar where they were in the minority. On fan sites i would read comments about how dangerous it is around philips yet in our 9 years, i don’t know of a mugging or even a pick pocket incident. This was just racist garbage. When I hear some people saying the arena is in the wrong place I think it is code for there are too many blacks at the games.”
What he is saying is not far from the truth,in fact many people will describe a neighborhood with mostly black people as a "bad neighborhood" no matter if no violence or illegal matters take place there or not.In his emails he seems to be ashamed of this fact ,and his intentions seem truthful but not intentionally harmful to any race.
