In contrast with all of the talk of ferguson and police brutality toward african americans,I think that its important that we remember that there are still many cops out there that do protect us, no matter what skin color.

A few weeks ago, 13-year-old Cameron Simmons called Sumter police because he was upset after fighting with his mom. The teenager told police he didn't want to live in the house with his family anymore. So out of the kindness of his heart the officer went out of his way to make sure that this 13 year old boy would be happy.Within the next few days the police officer came back with a Bed, TV, desk, chair, a Wii game system all just for the boy to live more comfortably. This just goes to show that there are plenty of police officers out there that care about the well being and protection of all people, and not all police forces should be grouped under this new stereotype started by unfortunate events.

ferguson grand jury extended

"In the aftermath of Monday's violence, Missouri governor Jay Nixon sent a large contingent of extra National Guard troops, ordering the initial force of 700 to be increased to 2,200 in hopes that their presence would help local law enforcement keep order in the St. Louis suburb."
Many of my fellow African Americans are blind to the facts of this Mike Brown case and the evidence and findings of the case. Many people have broken out in violence and looting. However this isn't what needs to be done. This is not the way to make the difference in achieving the justice that they are seeking. As a young African American male I can understand the frustration and anger that these rioters may have, however I know that its not right. This is far from what MLK's vision on the mountain top and the violence will not lead us to the promise land of equality and justice that we have been seeking hundreds of years

Ferguson Grand Jury

In Ferguson Missouri the grand jury ruled on not indicting the police offer who shot an unarmed black teenager a few months ago and it has stirred controversy in the African - American community. Although I am strongly against the violence that has followed the decision I have strong convictions about the decision.A grand jury investigation isn't supposed a trial. Regardless of whether or not you believe Wilson should be arrested, it's quite clear that this was handled improperly. All sorts of conflicting evidence has popped up over the last three months (which by the way is ridiculously long for a grand jury to convene). It's not the grand jury's place to say whether that he should be convicted beyond a reasonable doubt, just that there's "probable cause" that a crime was committed, hence a trial should be conducted. That the prosecutor couldn't get an indictment is a gross distortion of an already distorted criminal justice system.Rioters" and "protestors" are not synonyms. There were peaceful protests going on even as rioters were burning buildings and looting businesses. That's easy to overlook, since television feeds gravitated towards conflict. Because conflict = ratings. Regardless if you believe the rioters need to be condemned, conflating them with the entire population of Ferguson doesn't accomplish anything. It's quite counterproductive. Nobody conflates the city of San Francisco with the assclown smashing car windows after the Giants won the World Series. Nobody conflates all Penn State students with the people that rioted after Joe Paterno was fired. Nobody conflates all WASPY New Englanders with the people in Keene, New Hampshire. I wonder why. If you don't want to acknowledge the racism of the situation, just remember that the peaceful protestors repeatedly tried to get the violent people out of the crowd and prevent them from escalating a conflict.
